Offseason and Organic Vegetable Farming Training

WEAN provided four days of off-season and organic vegetable farming (Jestha 2081) training in the Bakaiya municipality of Makwanpur. This program aimed to teach the people of Bakaiya to off-season vegetable production and encourage them to use chemical-free fertilizers and pesticides requisite for organic farming.

This program was designed to introduce the local farmers of Bakaiya to new cultivation techniques and agriculture technology. We instructed the farmers to recycle and reuse local resources and to use organic fertilizers.

Bakaiya has a large area of cultivable land and keen human resources. However, the local farmers of the municipality face a lack of technical knowledge. Without the required education, off-season vegetable farming is not possible. This creates a negative impact on farmer’s income. The farmers also use chemical fertilizers which are detrimental to the environment and are not sustainable agriculture.

Equipping farmers with practical and theoretical knowledge needed for off-season and organic vegetable farming would uplift the standard of living for local farmers, encourage sustainable agriculture and free farmers and consumers form the adverse effects of different chemicals.
